Two decades of volcano monitoring in northeast China’s Changbai Mountains
China's largest volcano monitoring station, located on Changbai Mountains, home to the Tianchi crater lake, plays a crucial role in studying and predicting volcanic activity. Established in the mid-1990s, the station has grown significantly, now boasting 15 monitoring points and a larger research team. Initially, data collection was challenging due to the lack of optical fiber communication, requiring manual retrieval. However, infrastructure improvements have enabled real-time data transmission. Despite these advancements, harsh weather conditions continue to pose challenges to the team's ongoing monitoring efforts.
