Unchecked social media new form of colonialism, warns Masiung
Kuamut assemblyman Datuk Masiung Banah warned that the unchecked rise of social media, particularly the spread of fake news and short videos, poses a new form of colonialism that threatens national unity. He expressed concern about the weaponization of unfiltered content to attack the government and institutions, emphasizing the importance of appreciating the true meaning of independence. Masiung urged the younger generation to understand the struggles behind Malaysia's peaceful independence and to embrace national development and socio-economic progress. He stressed that true independence encompasses character building rooted in religion, education, morals, and culture.
