Upholding MA63 crucial to ensuring equality — Senator
Senator Datuk Nelson W. Angang emphasized that equal parliamentary representation for Sabah and Sarawak must be based on the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63). He criticized former EC chairman Wan Ahmad Wan Omar's statement suggesting otherwise, highlighting that MA63, including the Cobbold Commission and IGC reports, forms the foundation of Malaysia. Nelson stressed that initial seat allocation considered Sabah and Sarawak's smaller populations, vast land size, and the need to prevent any single region from dominating constitutional amendments. He noted that Singapore's exit led to seat redistribution favoring Malaya, contrary to the original intent. He urged greater awareness of MA63's importance, especially among federal civil servants.
