Federal Court declares Selangor fatwa partially invalid, no more ‘sesat’ or deviant label for SIS
Sisters in Islam (SIS) won its legal challenge against a 2014 Selangor fatwa, removing the "deviant" label from its company, SIS Forum (Malaysia). The Federal Court nullified sections of the fatwa concerning SIS, organizations, and institutions, as well as publications and website blocking. The court upheld the fatwa's application to individuals and the call for repentance, citing Selangor's jurisdiction over Islamic matters for individuals. However, it invalidated sections related to federal agencies and powers, like publication bans and website blocking by the MCMC.
