Key things to know about SCO Tianjin Summit
Leaders from Asia, Europe, and Africa will convene in Tianjin, China, from August 31st to September 1st for the largest Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in history. Originally focused on security, the 24-year-old SCO has expanded into a comprehensive organization representing nearly half the global population. The summit will chart the bloc's development for the next decade. Starting as the "Shanghai Five" in 1996 to address border security, the SCO now includes 10 member states, two observer states, and 14 dialogue partners, guided by the "Shanghai Spirit" of mutual trust, benefit, and respect for diverse civilizations.
