Malaysia developing BM AI model to boost digital sovereignty
The Malaysian government is developing a Bahasa Malaysia-based AI model, the National Large Language Model (NLLM), to bolster national digital sovereignty and data security. This initiative, a collaboration between the Ministry of Digital, industry, universities, and local providers, will encompass model development, data engineering, infrastructure, and data centers. The government is also exploring an Islamic AI system, incorporating ethical considerations aligned with Malaysian values. Concurrently, the Ministry of Higher Education is establishing a National Education Council to coordinate education policy.
