Kuching Division Journalists’ Association urges continued reforms for media freedom
The Kuching Division Journalists’ Association (KDJA) praised Malaysia's improved ranking in the 2025 World Press Freedom Index, rising 19 spots to 88th place. While acknowledging the progress, KDJA President Ronnie Teo emphasized the need for continued reforms to address issues like media ownership concentration and outdated laws hindering true editorial independence. He called for greater media transparency, stronger journalist protections, and the repeal of restrictive laws to ensure a free press, crucial for a thriving democracy.
