Rubio: Asean nations may get better tariff rates amid US trade talks
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, attending ASEAN talks in Kuala Lumpur, suggested Asian nations might receive more favorable tariff rates than other countries amidst ongoing trade negotiations. This follows President Trump's threat to impose tariffs on over 20 nations, including several ASEAN members, by August 1st. While some countries like Vietnam have reached tentative agreements, others like Japan and South Korea face potential tariffs of up to 25%. Rubio emphasized ongoing discussions with various nations, including Japan, aiming for mutually beneficial outcomes.
