Top countries where the US gets its steel and aluminium from, and how much
US President Donald Trump announced plans to double tariffs on steel and aluminum imports to 50% from 25%, impacting major trade partners. While China is largely unaffected due to existing tariffs, the move significantly affects Canada, the primary aluminum supplier to the US. About half of US aluminum and a quarter of its steel are imported. Mexico, Canada, Japan, South Korea, and Germany are key steel providers, while the UAE and China also contribute aluminum, though less than Canada.
