Sandakan’s lost era revived in landmark photo book launch
The book "Vintage Images of North Borneo" by the Kwan Brothers, showcasing pre-war and post-war Sandakan through their photography, was launched in Sandakan on May 3. Over 150 people attended the successful event. 12 framed, limited-edition prints of rare photographs were sold, with proceeds of RM2,400 donated to the Sabah Society (Sandakan Branch). Historian Nicholas Tan, who spent nearly a decade researching and compiling the book, meticulously tracked down archives and conducted interviews to preserve the stories behind the images, many of which were provided by Madam Wong Chio Chung.
