A Japan Airlines (JAL) Boeing 737 carrying 191 passengers and crew experienced a rapid descent of nearly 8,000 meters in 10 minutes, forcing an emergency landing in Osaka. The flight, JL8696/IJ004, operating in partnership with Spring Airlines Japan, was en route from Shanghai to Tokyo when the cabin pressure system malfunctioned. JAL stated rapid decompression did not occur, and the descent was a standard emergency procedure. No injuries were reported, and the cause is under investigation.
