An illegal sand mining operation, believed to have been active for a year in Kuala Muda, Bukit Selambau, and Kulim, Malaysia, was busted in a raid. Authorities seized four excavators, six lorries, a bulldozer, a tractor, two sand suction pumps, and other equipment, totaling RM2.83 million. Thirteen workers were detained and later released after questioning. The operators, lacking necessary permits, allegedly sold sand for RM400 per lorry load. The case is being investigated under the National Land Code 1965, with potential penalties of up to RM500,000 in fines and/or five years imprisonment.
