‘Not our kenyalang’: Affin Bank’s hornbill blunder sparks criticism from DAP Sarawak leaders
DAP Sarawak's Violet Yong criticized Affin Bank for depicting the Great Hornbill, a non-Sarawakian species, on a Sarawak-themed bank card. She called it cultural misrepresentation and demanded a correction, public apology, and card recall, emphasizing the Rhinoceros Hornbill as Sarawak's state bird. Yong highlighted the distinct neck colors differentiating the two species and expressed disappointment, especially given the Sarawak government's stake in Affin Bank. The issue was raised at a DAP fundraising dinner attended by over 1,000 people, including DAP chairman Gobind Singh Deo.
