The Asean Summit road closures show why KLIA needs a unified mobility strategy — Yap Wen Min
Highway closures in Kuala Lumpur for the 46th ASEAN Summit in May 2025 caused significant disruption for commuters, airport workers, and ride-hailing drivers. Despite existing national frameworks for integrated transport and smart mobility, like the National Transport Policy 2019-2030 and Smart Selangor Action Plan 2025, the lack of timely information led to missed flights, delays, and financial stress. This highlighted a gap between policy and implementation, impacting not only travellers but also logistics, tourism, and business continuity at KLIA, which handled 57.1 million passengers in 2024.
