Local support grows for plan to make northern Sarawak a ‘rice bowl’
Sarawak's government plans to establish Limbang as northern Sarawak's rice bowl, covering 4,264 hectares across 11 areas. This initiative aims to enhance food security and boost the local economy, particularly benefiting the Malay community. Six areas (2,734 hectares) are in Limbang District, and five (1,530 hectares) are in Lawas District. Two areas, Kampung Pandam (809 hectares) and Sundar (300 hectares), are already gazetted for rice cultivation. Local communities welcome the project, highlighting Limbang's fertile land and untapped potential for rice production.
