As global horse racing declines, Selangor Turf Club fights to stay in the saddle
Horse racing is declining globally, with iconic turf clubs closing due to illegal betting, dwindling attendance, and changing interests. Singapore, Macau, and Thailand have recently shut down their racing operations. Malaysia's Penang Turf Club is also struggling. However, the Selangor Turf Club (STC), established in 1896, remains as Malaysia's last premier racecourse. Despite low attendance and a quiet atmosphere, STC holds historical significance, having hosted royalty, celebrities, and dignitaries. The club also contributes to charitable causes through its Piala Emas Sultan Selangor race.
