Drive responsibly for safety, not just to avoid fines, says S’wak Transport Minister
Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin urged road users to prioritize safety by adhering to traffic rules, not just to avoid penalties. He expressed concern over drivers only complying when authorities are present, citing examples like seatbelt use and mobile phone usage. He highlighted rear-end collisions as the top accident cause in Sarawak, with 2,236 cases in the first four months of 2025, contributing to the total 6,724 accidents and 120 fatalities statewide. He attributed accidents to negligent driving, increased vehicle numbers, weather, road conditions, and terrain.
