Five dead, several missing as torrential rain triggers flood and landslide fears in southern China
Heavy rains across southern China, including Guangdong and Guangxi provinces, resulted in five fatalities and several missing persons over the weekend. Authorities issued alerts for severe rain, mountain flooding, and geological disasters. The National Meteorological Centre issued yellow alerts, indicating a relatively high risk, for parts of Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangdong, and Guangxi. Heavy rain is also expected in Xinjiang. This follows 2024 being recorded as China's warmest year since records began, contributing to stronger storms and increased rainfall.
