APAD Orders inDrive, Maxim To Cease Operations Starting 24 July 2025

Malaysia's Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) has issued cease-and-desist orders to e-hailing platforms inDrive and Maxim for operating without proper authorization. Transport Minister Anthony Loke confirmed the order, effective July 24th, stating the companies violated the Land Public Transport Act 2010 by not ensuring all drivers possess valid E-Hailing Vehicle Permits. The companies can appeal, but the final decision rests with the Minister. The Malaysian P-Hailing Riders Association previously urged action against the platforms for alleged non-compliance with regulations, including drivers lacking PSV licenses, insurance, and vehicle inspections. inDrive has acknowledged the notice and is in discussions with APAD.

Marine police in Miri, Sarawak seized a boat, a tanker lorry, and approximately 24,000 litres of diesel worth RM10.25 million during Op Taring Landai. The shipmaster and lorry driver, both Malaysians, were detained for failing to produce authorization documents from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) for possessing and transporting controlled goods. The case is being investigated under the Supply Control Act 1961. The shipmaster also faces charges under the Sarawak Rivers Ordinance 1993 and the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1960 for various operational violations.
