The operation is a response to public safety concerns, and residents are urged to avoid river activities during this period. Recording or media coverage of the operation is prohibited. This follows a search for a 32-year-old man, Ahmad Alzadkhri Sudin, who was attacked by a crocodile on September 15 while shrimping. This incident follows another fatal crocodile attack on a 12-year-old boy earlier that week.
Australia's eSafety Commissioner is considering expanding its ban on social media platforms for users under 16. Sixteen companies, including WhatsApp, Reddit, Twitch, Roblox, Pinterest, and Steam, have been asked to self-assess whether they fall under the ban's scope. While platforms like Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube are already included, the regulator will review the self-assessments and prioritize platforms with the most users and highest risk of harm. A search and rescue operation is underway for a 54-year-old barge worker, Jamie Adong, who fell into the Rajang River near Kanowit, Sarawak. The incident occurred around 4:20 pm on Saturday while he was relieving himself at the stern of the barge. A crew member witnessed the fall. The search, involving police, fire and rescue, and other agencies, began Sunday morning due to poor weather conditions on Saturday. Foul play is not suspected.
