Heavy rainfall in Mumbai, India, has disrupted the lives of millions, flooding streets and causing flight and train cancellations. Many areas remain waist-deep in water, with residents seen swimming through flooded streets. Authorities rescued 600 people trapped on a stalled monorail. At least 23 people were treated for breathlessness. While monsoon rains are common in Maharashtra during this time, the region has experienced exceptionally heavy rainfall, resulting in at least 21 rain-related deaths statewide this week. Mumbai received 800mm of rain in four days, exceeding the average August rainfall. Schools and colleges are closed, and around 350 people have been evacuated. Flights have also been cancelled.
