Starting May 19, 2025, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) will no longer allow the direct exchange of foreign driving licenses for Malaysian Driving Licenses (LMM). Foreign nationals will need to obtain an LMM through the standard procedure, similar to Malaysian citizens. Exemptions apply to diplomats, Malaysia My Second Home participants, and Malaysians who obtained foreign licenses before acquiring an LMM. Foreigners staying less than 12 months can use an International Driving Permit (IDP), while ASEAN nationals can use their original licenses.
