With savings depleted, desperate Bintulu mum seeks donations for son’s second liver transplant in China

A Bintulu mother is urgently seeking donations for her 1-year-8-month-old son, Gonzalez Yiu, who needs a second liver transplant due to Type II autoimmune hepatitis and end-stage liver disease. The procedure, estimated at RM225,000, will be performed at Renji Hospital in Shanghai. Gonzalez's first transplant, using his mother's liver, was unsuccessful. His father will be the donor for the second transplant. The family has been at University Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM) since March. Biliary Atresia Malaysia Association (Bama) and Nanyang Press Foundation are supporting the family. Donations can be made to Yayasan Nanyang Press.
