Restoration of the moat surrounding Fort Cornwallis in Penang, Malaysia, is nearing completion and expected by July, coinciding with Unesco World Heritage celebrations. Originally built in 1804, the moat was filled in 1921 following a malaria outbreak. The RM23.4 million restoration, partially funded by the Penang state government, Think City, and Yayasan Hasanah, is part of the North Seafront Improvement Programme. The restored moat will hold 3,600 cubic meters of water. A nearby food court, Astaka Kota Selera, has also been rebuilt and will reopen on June 2nd.
