A 13-year-old boy from Kampung Segedup, Kuching, Sarawak, is the first confirmed human rabies case in the state for 2025. He developed symptoms like fever, hallucinations, and difficulty swallowing after being scratched by a stray cat. He frequently interacted with stray animals and handled a dead cat carcass. While human rabies cases are down from 2024, animal bite incidents remain high in Sarawak. The public is urged to avoid contact with stray animals and seek immediate treatment if bitten.
