Top-ranked men's doubles pair Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Mohd Rumsani will face compatriots Arif Junaidi and Yap Roy King in the second round. Sze Fei-Izzuddin advanced easily, while five other Malaysian representatives also progressed to the second round.
