Former Dutch international John Heitinga has been appointed as the new head coach of Ajax Amsterdam. The 41-year-old returns to his boyhood club on a two-year contract, replacing Francesco Farioli who resigned after Ajax's dramatic title collapse. Heitinga gained coaching experience at Liverpool and West Ham, and expressed excitement about his new role. Ajax finished the season poorly, surrendering a nine-point lead to finish second behind PSV Eindhoven.
