Former Sabah Oil and Gas Development Corporation CEO Abdul Kadir Abdullah Damsal criticized Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun's claims about Sabah's oil and gas sector development. Kadir argued that Masidi's assertion that the sector only evolved after SMJ Energy's 2021 establishment is misleading, citing the prior involvement of state-linked companies like Sabah Energy Corporation, Sabah International Petroleum, and SOGDC. He highlighted the Barisan Nasional administration's role in launching the Sabah Integrated Oil and Gas Project in 2014 with Petronas, a nearly RM54 billion investment that laid the foundation for current infrastructure and created numerous jobs. Kadir also emphasized the Joint Working Committee's contribution to increased gas allocations and local capacity development.
