A married man in his 30s was caught for suspected khalwat (close proximity) with a 50-year-old widow and mother of three in a Muar hotel. The Johor Islamic Religious Department (Jainj) detained the pair at 1 a.m. The man, who has a wife and two children, claimed he usually spends nights watching friends prawn fishing but opted for the hotel. He reportedly chose a more expensive hotel (RM240) believing it would be safer. They are being investigated under Section 27 of the Johor Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment 1997, which carries a maximum penalty of RM3,000 fine, two years imprisonment, or both.
