Hong Kong's film industry aims to revive its golden age (1970s-1990s) by investing in new directors. Wilfred Wong, chairman of the Hong Kong Film Development Council, highlighted the importance of preserving Hong Kong cinema's unique identity. The industry's decline, which began in the late 1990s due to factors like overproduction and talent drain to Hollywood, is being addressed by supporting emerging filmmakers. The council has nurtured 32 new directors, including Juno Mak, whose film "Sons of the Neon Nights" premiered at Cannes, starring veteran actor Tony Leung Ka-fai.
