Malaysia is committed to strengthening its naval and maritime enforcement agencies to address threats like piracy, smuggling, and marine pollution. Defense Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin emphasized the importance of investing in advanced monitoring technologies, including autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) and intelligence sharing, to enhance maritime security. He highlighted the need for joint training exercises with international partners and the exploration of new technologies like AI for data analysis and threat monitoring. The minister also stressed the significance of submarine cable networks and deep-sea research.
