Tropical rainforest destruction reached alarming levels last year, with climate change-driven fires causing unprecedented forest loss. Globally, 67,000 square kilometers of primary rainforest were lost, an area twice the size of Belgium or Taiwan. According to the Global Forest Watch think tank, this loss represents an 80% increase. The destruction is particularly concerning due to the vital role rainforests play in biodiversity and climate regulation.
