Penang will implement a track-and-trace system for durians starting June 1st to combat fraud and ensure authenticity. Developed with MIMOS Sdn Bhd, the system will tag durians, allowing tracking from farm to retailer. This addresses issues of misrepresentation, particularly sellers falsely claiming durians are from Balik Pulau or selling imported Thai durians as Penang produce. The system aims to protect local durian farmers and build consumer trust by providing transparency and quality assurance.
