Selangor is developing a mechanism to seize assets of husbands who default on alimony payments. This involves collaboration between the Selangor Syariah Judiciary Department (Jakess), National Registration Department (JPN), Inland Revenue Board (LHDN), and financial institutions. Amendments to the Islamic Family Law Enactment are also being considered to ensure fairness and relevance. Between 2022 and May 31, 2024, 1,189 alimony violation complaints were received, with Jakess recording 1,099 cases and resolving 777. Choosing the right enforcement mechanism is crucial for effectiveness.
