The Smart Large-Scale Padi Field (Smart SBB) program in Kota Belud, Sabah, is modernizing rice farming through technology like drones and modern machinery. Launched in 2023, the program has increased productivity and efficiency for farmers like Adlin Mohammad, a third-generation farmer and BERNAS farm manager. The program utilizes modern machinery adapted to local conditions, replacing traditional manual labor and buffalo-powered ploughing. While initially met with skepticism, the program has been embraced by farmers who appreciate the blend of traditional knowledge and modern technology, including drone seeding and remote monitoring.
