Sarawak to allocate RM1.2 bln for three years of free tertiary education
Sarawak Premier Abang Johari announced a RM1.2 billion allocation to provide free tertiary education for 10,000 Sarawakians annually, starting next year. This initiative targets students with "K" status in their MyKad, enrolled in state-owned institutions like Swinburne, Curtin, and Universiti Teknologi Sarawak. The program will prioritize fields like STEM, computer science, law, finance, psychology, and medicine, addressing future workforce needs. The funding is made possible by Sarawak's increased revenue, which has grown from RM6 billion to RM15 billion due to economic diversification and transparent resource management.
