Mayor: MBKS assessing tree health near Pending school after recent incident

Following a recent incident of a large tree falling near Chung Hua Middle School No.1 in Pending, Kuching South City Council (MBKS) is assessing the health and stability of other large trees in the area. Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng stated that authorities will evaluate the trees' health, particularly their root systems, to determine if they pose a risk. A wind velocity test is also being conducted to understand the cause of the initial tree fall. The mayor emphasized the unpredictable weather due to climate change and the importance of addressing the root causes of such incidents, rather than resorting to tree removal unless absolutely necessary.

320 households in Rejang Park receive reimbursement for septic tank self-installation

320 households in Rejang Park, Sibu, received RM3,000 each as reimbursement for self-installing septic tanks. Deputy Minister Datuk Michael Tiang presented the cheques, totaling RM960,000, and thanked Premier Abang Johari Tun Openg for approving the funds. The reimbursement addresses long-standing issues with a failing centralized sewage system built in the 1970s. Tiang, the Pelawan assemblyman, initially proposed the project in 2015 after residents raised concerns. The project, initially estimated at RM3 million to cover 345 houses and 32 commercial lots, was delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Residents plead for action as man’s unruly behaviour sparks fear in Tabuan Dusun

Residents of Tabuan Dusun, Kuching, are demanding action against the son of a prominent figure who is allegedly causing disturbances and threats. The man, believed to have drug abuse and mental health issues, has reportedly broken into homes, damaged property, attempted assault, and wandered naked. Despite numerous police reports and mediation attempts since October 2022, the situation persists, causing fear and stress among residents who are calling for the man's father to take responsibility and seek psychiatric care for him.
