Following the tragic drowning of a family of six in Sungai Korok, Jitra, Kedah, netizens have highlighted the river's reputation for supernatural occurrences. Many claim the area is known as a place to discard bad spirits ('buang saka') and has seen numerous unfortunate incidents. Some suggest the authorities improve safety measures, such as installing barriers, due to the river's dark and dangerous conditions, especially at night and after heavy rain. The family, including four children aged six months to nine years, was found deceased inside their submerged car.

Missing Pujut bamboo shoots forager found safe

A 60-year-old woman, Cheng Lai Hoi, who went missing while foraging for bamboo shoots in a secondary jungle in Pujut 7, Miri, has been found safe. She went missing around 9am and was found at 11:20pm, approximately 800 meters from her last known location. Search and rescue efforts involved the police, fire department, and STORM. She received on-site medical treatment and returned home.

Neurosurgery conference to be first event to be staged at Unifor Complex’s events facility

The Sarawak Neurosurgery Conference 2025 will be the inaugural event at the Unifor Complex's new conference hall in Kuching on August 2nd. Deputy Premiers Dr Sim Kui Hian and Douglas Uggah Embas, along with Unifor director Georgina Ngau, recently inspected the facility. The RM73 million complex, completed in October 2023, features a 10-storey building with a green design and a nine-storey office tower. The Sarawak Unifor Charitable Trust also held a board meeting.
