SWB: Sibu water woes traced to leaks at hospital, airport
Water supply issues in Kemuyang, Sibu Jaya, Rascom Camp, and surrounding areas are due to pipeline leaks, particularly at Sibu Hospital and Sibu Airport. Sibu Water Board (SWB) identified significant increases in water consumption at both locations, possibly from internal leaks. Sibu Hospital's consumption doubled to 1MLD, and their water bill doubled to RM30,000. Sibu Airport's consumption also doubled to 0.6MLD. SWB has reduced water flow to these locations pending repairs. Sibu's water demand has reached its peak of 195MLD, matching current plant capacity. A project to increase Salim Water Treatment Plant's capacity to 300MLD is underway.
