Touting At Malaysian Airports Is Now A Criminal Offence
Malaysia has criminalized airport touting with the introduction of Act A1766, amending the Commercial Vehicles Licensing Board Act 1987. Effective July 9, 2025, unauthorized soliciting of passengers at airports and surrounding areas is punishable by fines up to RM50,000, imprisonment up to five years, or both. The law targets both touts and agents, and empowers police and JPJ officers to make warrantless arrests. Enforcement covers all public airport areas, aiming to improve passenger experience.
