Around 30 out of 200 restaurant and small business owners in Kelantan, Malaysia, have closed down since 2021. Che Syadina Che Daud, chairman of the Kelantan Malay Restaurant Owners Association (Perkema), attributed the closures to rising raw material costs, minimum wage implementation, targeted cooking oil subsidies, cooking gas price increases, and higher electricity bills.
