Sabah Ports Sdn Bhd (SPSB) addressed concerns raised by the Sabah Timber Industries Association (STIA) about operational issues at Tawau Port in a stakeholder meeting. SPSB is working to restore two ship-to-shore gantry cranes, with one already operational. They prioritized STIA containers but a shipment was canceled by the shipping line. SPSB disputes claims that equipment issues are solely responsible for backlogs and encourages diversifying shipping partners. A RM70 million investment in two new quay cranes is planned to improve port capacity.
