Lotus is exploring the possibility of equipping the Emira sports car with a V8 engine, potentially larger than its current supercharged V6. Geely CEO Feng Qingfeng confirmed the investigation, prompted by a US dealer's suggestion. Adapting the current V6 to meet Euro 7 emissions is not feasible. While Lotus is considering options with its current engine supplier (likely Mercedes-AMG, provider of the Emira i4's 2.0L engine), a V8 would require significant re-engineering due to the Emira's mid-engine, transverse layout. The Emira's popularity, especially in the US, has led Lotus to reconsider discontinuing the V6 and explore a larger engine replacement.
