Sabah's Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ellron Angin proposed inviting students to the 50th Double Six tragedy memorial next year. He also suggested inviting a federal government representative to commemorate the tragedy and reflect on Sabah's political history. This announcement was made at the 49th memorial service. A poetry competition held in conjunction with the event attracted 132 participants. The Double Six tragedy, which occurred on June 6, 1976, killed 11 people, including then Chief Minister Tun Fuad Stephens and six other state ministers.
