Jiangkou County in Guizhou, China, has transformed from a poverty-stricken region to a major matcha producer. In 2024, the county sold over 1,200 tonnes of matcha, worth over US$41.7 million, exporting to markets like Japan, the US, and France. Guizhou province contributes a quarter of China's matcha output, exporting to over 40 countries. Advanced technology introduced in 2017 spurred this growth, creating a province-wide matcha industry involving nearly 100,000 tea growers. Companies like Gui Tea Group manage the process from farm to factory, ensuring premium quality and EU standards.
