The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has filed a lawsuit against two Telegram channels, "Edisi Siasat" and "Edisi Khas", for spreading content violating the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. MCMC alleges the channels eroded public trust and disrupted order. This action, the first against a social media platform provider, follows Telegram's alleged failure to address reported content despite MCMC's efforts. An interim injunction was obtained to halt the spread of the harmful content. MCMC emphasizes that all platform providers are responsible for content published on their platforms.
