Sarawak will host a new RM2 billion semiconductor-grade polysilicon plant, a joint venture between Japan's Tokuyama Corporation and South Korea's OCI TerraSus. Located in Bintulu's Samalaju Industrial Park, the facility will make Malaysia the fifth country capable of producing this high-purity material. With a targeted production start in January 2029, the plant will create 200 jobs and produce 8,000 metric tonnes annually, supplying Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. Sarawak was chosen for its strategic location, political stability, and focus on renewable energy.
