Australia will bolster its naval capabilities by acquiring 11 Mogami-class frigates from Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries for US$6 billion (RM25.3 billion). This marks the largest defense deal between the two nations. The advanced stealth frigates, chosen over a German bid, will replace Australia's aging Anzac-class fleet, with the first Mogami frigate expected to be operational by 2030. These next-generation vessels feature enhanced stealth technology, 32 vertical launch cells for long-range missiles, including Tomahawk cruise missiles, aligning with Australia's shift towards long-range strike capabilities in response to China's growing naval power.
