The Kedah Department of Environment (DOE) raided an illegal battery processing plant in the Bukit Selambau Industrial Area, Sungai Petani. The raid uncovered approximately 100 metric tons of used lithium batteries, 317 metric tons of crushed used batteries, and 20 metric tons of recovered metal powder. The plant's equipment was seized, and the case is being investigated under the Environmental Quality Act 1974 for operating without proper permits and pollution control measures. The DOE emphasized its commitment to monitoring and preventing illegal waste processing activities.
