WhatsApp is rolling out new scam protection features, including a safety overview for group invites and enhanced detection of scam operations. The safety overview allows users added to unfamiliar groups to preview group details before joining, muting notifications until they actively participate. This complements existing tools like blocking, reporting, and silencing unknown callers. WhatsApp is also testing alert systems for unsolicited private messages from unknown contacts and actively combating large-scale scam networks, banning over 6.8 million accounts linked to such operations in the first half of 2024.
